Planning a wedding is basically like throwing a party for 100+ people while juggling flaming batons... in heels. Between seating charts, dress codes, and figuring out who gets chicken vs. veal, things can get a little wild.
To save you from texting us at midnight with “Wait, what time does this start again?” we’ve compiled answers to all the most frequently asked questions. Whether you're wondering what to wear, where to park, or how to RSVP without accidentally sending a carrier pigeon—we’ve got you covered.
• When and where should I arrive for the wedding?
Both the ceremony and reception will take place indoors at the Detroit Athletic Club in downtown Detroit on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The ceremony begins promptly at 5:30 PM, and we kindly ask all guests to arrive NO LATER THAN 5:15 PM, to find your seat and get settled.
Downtown Detroit traffic can be unpredictable on any weekend—but on our wedding day, Ford Field is hosting a 65,000‑person Chris Stapleton concert, with doors opening at the same time as the ceremony. This will create significant congestion around the DAC.
***Please plan extra travel time and expect delays. Complimentary valet will be available, and guests staying at the Atheneum may use the hotel shuttle.
Arriving early will ensure you’re relaxed, seated, and ready to celebrate with us.
• What’s the dress code for the wedding?
***************Black Tie Encouraged / Optional**************
We'd like to see our guests dressed to the nines!
**Men: A tuxedo is ideal, though a dark suit and tie will still look sharp.
**Women: This is your chance to go full glam and wear a beautiful evening gown! A dressy cocktail dress works too, but we’d be thrilled to see long, elegant gowns twirling around the dance floor.
Think elevated, polished, and celebratory. When in doubt, lean dressy — we want everyone feeling fabulous from the first toast to the last dance.
• When will invitations be sent out, and how do I RSVP?
Invitations will be mailed out by Friday, May 8, 2026. Please RSVP NO LATER THAN Wednesday, July 1, 2026. You can RSVP in one of two ways… 1) Mail back the RSVP card included with your invitation or, 2) Email your response to barbmall@yahoo.com, making sure to indicate each guest's meal preferences. *** Kindly note that RSVPs are not being accepted online through The Knot.
We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
• Can I bring my kids or a plus-one/guest?
We love your children and friends too, but due the nature of our celebration (adult only), as well as space limitations, we kindly ask that only those specifically named on your invitation attend.
Thank you for understanding—we’re so excited to celebrate with you!
• What happens after the ceremony... will there be food and drinks?
After the ceremony, we’ll ease into a cocktail hour featuring hors d’oeuvres and handcrafted cocktails—perfect for mingling and kicking off the celebration. From there, we’ll transition into a delicious sit-down dinner followed by dancing - all at the same venue, so no need to travel between locations!
When you receive your invitation (in mid-May of 2026), you’ll be asked to select your entrée from a variety of options: beef, chicken or fish. A vegetarian dish will also be available for those with dietary restrictions.
And for dessert? A wedding cake prepared by a professional pastry chef—beautiful, decadent, and almost too pretty to eat (almost).
• Will there be an Afterglow?
Absolutely — the celebration doesn’t end when the reception does. We’re taking the party downstairs to the Abbey at the Detroit Athletic Club, where the lights stay low and the energy stays high for late‑night fun — bowling, music, dancing, an open bar, and midnight bites from 12–2 AM!!! It’s the perfect way to keep the celebration going.
A limousine shuttle will run continuously to the Atheneum Hotel, so you can head back whenever you’re ready… though we have a feeling you’ll want to stay.
• Are there hotel accommodations nearby?
Please reference the "Travel" tab above for all the details.
• Is there parking at the Atheneum Hotel?
Yes, they have valet parking, which is well-priced at $20 per night (for our wedding guests who are part of the set of blocked rooms!). For other guests who booked rooms at the best available rate, the rate is $40/night, but it does include in and out privileges!
• What if I’m not staying at the hotel—can I park at the venue on the wedding day?
Yes! If you're driving directly to the Detroit Athletic Club, complimentary valet parking will be available for all our wedding guests at the clubhouse entrance, on the day of the wedding - August 8, 2026.
Please keep in mind that our ceremony begins promptly at 5:30 PM.; however, we'd like guests to arrive NO LATER THAN 5:15pm, to get inside, find your seat and get comfortable! PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. We can’t wait to welcome you!
• What’s the best airport to fly into?
If you're traveling from out of town, the closest airport is Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). We recommend booking flights early, especially if you're planning to stay for the weekend.
• Will there be a Photo booth?
Yes! We’ll have a glam photo booth set up during the reception so you can strike your best poses, get silly, and take home some fun memories.
• Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We kindly ask that guests silence their phones and refrain from taking photos and/or any videos during the ceremony. This moment is deeply special to us, and we’d love for everyone to be fully present without distractions. Once the celebration begins, feel free to take all the photos you’d like during the reception—we can’t wait to see your joyful memories!
• What if I miss the RSVP deadline?
We totally understand that life gets busy; however, PLEASE try to RSVP by Wednesday, July 1, 2026, as we must finalize our headcount. If you’re running late, please call Barb Mallires at 586-405-3728.
• If I still have questions, whom should I contact?
Please contact Barb Mallires at barbmall@yahoo.com or 586-405-3728.
